Spring tester SPG 1000

The SPG 1000 is used to evaluate the jumping behaviour and dissolving capacity of flock fibres under the influence of tension and thus simulates real working conditions.

Product description

Spring tester SPG 1000

The SPG 1000 jumping tester simulates the practical conditions of a flocking machine and thus assesses the jumping and dissolving capacity of the flock under the influence of tension. The following evaluation criteria are checked during the jumping test:

  • The lift-off time of a defined amount of flock under the influence of a defined electric field of 4 kV/cm
  • Jumping characteristic in the electric field
  • Possible residual amount of flock fibres
  • Measurement of the current during the jump time

The test chamber of the SPG 1000 jump tester is represented by a closed Plexiglas cylinder 350 mm high and 290 mm in diameter, with the ground electrode facing it and a live electrode. The ground electrode has a diameter of 80 mm, on which the flock sample plate with a diameter of 95 mm is placed. The live electrode is connected to the high-voltage generator at a distance of 100 mm and a diameter of 60 mm by means of a high-voltage cable in the connecting arm. The electrode distance can be individually adjusted from 48 - 102 mm, depending on requirements. In the test chamber, the base plate forms a scale with diameter indication for flock assessment.

To ensure practical and easy handling, for placing the sample plate as well as for cleaning the inner wall, the cylinder is divided and the front half is removable. The rear half of the cylinder can also be removed simply by pulling the ground electrode out of the plug connection and tilting the cylinder half over. When closed, the cylinder provides sample inspection during testing and protection from flying flock. In addition, the cylinder provides a safety guarantee as protection against contact. A high-voltage generator is installed in the base of the device, which supplies approx. 45 kV negative DC voltage. The following displays and settings are possible on the control panel in the front panel:

  • Measuring device for setting the voltage to 40 kV
  • Control knob for HS adjustment
  • Control lamp for mains operation
  • Remote control plug with push button
  • digital time measuring device, which displays the duty cycle of the electrostats
  • Display for the measuring process

The 2-pole socket with plug on the side allows the connection of an external ammeter and alternatively to a recorder.
The power switch and the plug are located on the back of the device. Using the sieving device, the flock can be dosed through the sieve onto the sample plate with a small round brush. The sieve consists of a sieve with a mesh size of 0.8 mm, which is inserted into a two-part cylinder. The cylinder has an inner diameter of 80 mm and a diameter of 95 mm at the lower edge and can therefore be fitted to suit the flock sample plate.

The following evaluation criteria lead to a quantitative as well as qualitative assessment of the flocculation behaviour:
The lift-off time to be read on the timer is the main assessment characteristic, whereby a flock-typical initial value, such as the supplier's specification or production-related own determinations, are opposed to this. In the event that flock residue remains on the sample plate after 30 seconds of voltage switch-on time, this is balanced and compared with a standard value.

The jump characteristic shows the behaviour of the flock during the stress action, this is measured as follows:

Appearance:

  • Flock yard on the ground plate
    Evaluation criterion: diameter in cm
  • Beard formation:
    Evaluation criterion: yes/no
  • Settling of the flock on the cylinder wall
Assessment criterion: yes/no, above/below the electrode
  • Dissolution assets
    Judging ability: even/ uneven

You thus receive a testing device for a reliable evaluation of the jumping behaviour as well as of flock fibres under the influence of tension. The working conditions correspond to those of a flocking machine, resulting in a 1:1 transferable test. The SPG 1000 jump tester is characterised by simple and precise operation and is the only device on the market which measures flock behaviour at 40 kV under real conditions. It is ideally suited for a reliable incoming goods inspection of flock and detects abnormal jump behaviour under the influence of high voltage.
